Here’s a recipe for making delicious stuffed clams using all Halal ingredients:

Ingredients:

  • 12 large clams (littleneck or cherrystone clams work well)
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (make sure they are Halal certified)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (extra virgin preferred)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup parsley, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup grated Halal Parmesan cheese (make sure it’s from a Halal-certified source)
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 lemon, cut into wedges
  • 2 tablespoons butter (use Halal-certified butter)
  • Optional: 1/4 cup Halal beef or turkey sausage, finely chopped (for added flavor)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Clams:
    • Clean the clams thoroughly by scrubbing the shells under cold water.
    • Steam the clams in a large pot with a bit of water until they just open. This should take about 5-7 minutes. Remove the clams from the pot and let them cool. Discard any clams that do not open.
  2. Remove the Clam Meat:
    • Once cooled, carefully remove the clam meat from the shells. Chop the meat finely and set aside. Keep the clam shells as you’ll use them for stuffing.
  3. Make the Filling:
    • In a large pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, and sauté until soft and translucent.
    • If using Halal sausage, add it to the pan and cook until browned.
    • Add the chopped clam meat to the pan, stirring for a couple of minutes.
    • Remove the pan from heat and add the breadcrumbs, parsley, Halal Parmesan cheese, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  4. Stuff the Clams:
    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
    • Take each reserved clam shell and fill it with the breadcrumb mixture, pressing it down slightly to compact it.
    • Place the stuffed clams on a baking sheet.
  5. Bake the Clams:
    • Melt the butter and drizzle it over each stuffed clam.
    • Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.
  6. Serve:
    • Serve the stuffed clams hot, garnished with lemon wedges.

Tips:

  • Breadcrumbs: Ensure the breadcrumbs are Halal-certified, as some may contain non-Halal ingredients.
  • Cheese: Use Halal-certified Parmesan or any suitable cheese that fits Halal guidelines.
  • Sausage: If you prefer a meaty stuffing, finely chopped Halal beef or turkey sausage adds great flavor.

This recipe yields a flavorful appetizer that’s perfect for any occasion, with the assurance that all ingredients comply with Halal dietary requirements. Enjoy!
